About the Role

Senior Fire Alarm Designer

Location: North Carolina

Snowdon Fire Protection Search is recruiting a Senior Fire Alarm Designer for a fire protection contractor in North Carolina.

This opportunity would suit an experienced designer who enjoys managing complex designs, solving technical challenges and supporting junior colleagues. You’ll work closely with project managers and installation teams, taking projects from initial review through permitting and installation.

The Role

  • Produce fire alarm layouts and shop drawings for commercial and industrial projects.

  • Prepare device layouts, circuit designs, riser diagrams, equipment schedules and supporting calculations.

  • Complete battery capacity and voltage-drop calculations and develop sequences of operation.

  • Coordinate fire alarm interfaces with elevators, HVAC, sprinkler monitoring and other building systems.

  • Review drawings and calculations completed by junior designers.

  • Prepare permit submissions and respond to comments from reviewing authorities.

  • Resolve design and installation queries with project teams, customers and field personnel.

  • Support estimating through material takeoffs, technical input and practical design solutions.

  • Mentor less experienced designers and help maintain consistent drawing quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • Ideally five or more years of relevant fire alarm design, installation or technical experience.

  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70 and applicable North Carolina building and fire codes.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and fire alarm design software.

  • Experience with addressable systems, networked panels, voice evacuation and emergency communications.

  • Confidence working independently and coordinating multiple project requirements.

  • NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems strongly preferred.

  • High school diploma or GED required; a relevant technical qualification is an advantage.

  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.

The position is primarily office based, with site visits as required. There is scope to develop toward broader technical leadership or project management responsibilities.
